Kids Gotta Exercise Too
Physical inactivity and sedentary living is becoming more and more common among children, today. Addiction to television, computers and cell phones are making children couch potatoes and it is imperative for them to exercise. Good habits are best started early. A child is instinctively active – develop this instinct. Take your child to the park, playground, encourage learning of basic sporting skills such as throwing and kicking the ball, skipping, jumping, running and playing outdoor games.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN SET YOUR CHILD ON THE EXERCISE ROUTINE:
- Balance television, computer and video game time with exercise time.
- Set times for homework, play and exercise.
- Make exercise time a fun time. Join in! Play games, walk, take a trip to the park or play a sport.
- Encourage participation in fitness programs designed for children such as karate, yoga or athletics and in sports
EXERCISE CAN BE GREAT FUN
Physical activity should be enjoyable for children. Here are examples of some fun activities that your child can do
- Ride a bicycle
- Walk the dog
- Fly a kite
- Swim and splash in the pool
- Hop, skip and jump
- Dance to music
- Roller-skate
- Play and run with friends.
Good health and well-being are all about making small changes in your attitude and daily routine. Practice them until they become good habits. And, always remain positive. Never allow your child to say, “I’m bored. There’s nothing to do.” And as you’ve just found out, there’s always something to do!
